Ocean Sciences Meeting (OSM)

From 22–27 February, the UK hosts the Ocean Sciences Meeting (OSM), a major biennial event that brings together around 6,000 scientists and ocean professionals from across the world. The meeting provides an important forum for sharing cutting-edge research, developing collaborative solutions, and building long-term partnerships that strengthen the global impact of ocean science.

Researchers from all three Marine Research Plymouth Alliance partner institutions — the Marine Biological Association (MBA), Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML), and the University of Plymouth (UoP) — play an active role in the programme. Scientists from across the Alliance contribute through keynote and session presentations, convening and chairing discussions, presenting posters, taking part in specialist meetings, and engaging with delegates throughout the event.

A significant in-person delegation represents Plymouth’s marine research community, demonstrating the strength and breadth of expertise across the city’s institutions. Delegates can connect with our researchers at Exhibition Stand 38, which highlights the Alliance’s collaborative, cross-institutional approach to advancing marine science.

The Ocean Sciences Meeting, launched in 1982, is co-sponsored by the American Geophysical Union (AGU), the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO), and The Oceanography Society (TOS). It is also recognised as an endorsed Decade Action programme under the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, underlining its global importance in shaping the future of ocean research.
